Tomcat is distributed under the Apache License 2.0, making it totally free software. Tomcat is used to deploy Java servlets and JSP pages. Apache needs to be integrated with Tomcat, as Tomcat is essentially a servlet and JSP server serving Java technologies. Like working with any Java technology, Tomcat also makes web pages totally platform independent.
